Sustainability in Sea Mills

The cubs took action in the fight against our city’s Ecological Emergency tonight; collecting bags and bags of rubbish from important habitats. Thank you to the Sea Mills and Coombe Dingle Climate Action Group for supporting our cubs in action.

They also learnt that, if we want to encourage wild flowers to grow (thereby supporting pollinators and the start of the food web), we need to remove the risings (cuttings) of the grass. Grass needs all the fertility from the risings, whereas wildflowers can grow in quite infertile ground. If we leave the cuttings, we are always giving grass the opportunity to out perform wildflowers. If we remove the risings, we can weaken the grass and encourage wildflowers to have their turn.
